Bridge Recruitment s client, a principal contractor based in Tottenham, North London, is a seeking a Senior Estimator to join their team. Our client has completed prestigious projects across London and Home Counties for the past 40 years. The vacancy is within the Special Works Division which completes 200 projects per annum with an average value of £1.5M. You will exclusively tender for projects from £250k 2M. Our client works exclusively in public sector with the majority of projects in Education, Healthcare and Social Housing sectors. The successful candidate will report directly to a Divisional MD and the Group Chairman. Ideally, you will have at least 10 years main contractor estimating experience with a degree education. We may consider a couple years less if you have a strong record in fit-out/refurbishment projects. You must be commercially astute, aiming for a gross profit of 15% on projects. You will be confident in picking up the phone and closing business. Daily responsibilities and accountabilities Meeting tender deadlines Completing tenders with an accurate competitive net cost. Achieving a win rate of better than 1 in 4 Be able to estimate on a wide variety of project types ranging from D&B and JCT traditional forms of contract in the £200k to £1.5 million range. Build up relationships with subcontractors so that those who price regularly also regularly work for Special Works. Proficient in preparing Bills of Quantities and schedules of work. Select subcontractors that are suitable for the works that are being tendered and can cope with the work in the proposed timescales. Adhere to all standard company processes and procedures. Take full ownership of the tenders you manage. Ensure supply chain quotes are selected for competitiveness accuracy and compliance for bids. Work in conjunction with the operations team to support the production of tender programmes. Engage with the Operations teams to include the prelim and constructional complexities in the tender. Work with the bid team to reflect the quality submission in the tender submission. Building and maintaining effective client and supplier relationships. Ensuring key risks and opportunities are identified. Targets 100% accuracy in computing tenders. All subcontract quotes checked for errors Aim for a minimum of 3 subcontract quotes for each trade. Recruitment Forms Obtain material quotes for any materials not included in the subcontractor s package. Track all subcontractors quotes in the marketplace for the tender. Your Personal Qualities As an Estimator, you will have strong organisational skills, be commercially aware, proactive and produce high quality, commercially viable winning tenders in a fast-moving industry. You must be able to demonstrate your ability to undertake the role from previous or current experience. You will be a strong negotiator with excellent communication and people skills. You must have good planning and organisational skills, preferably you will have local authority sector tendering experience with an ability to work calmly under pressure. ICT literate and commercially aware is essential. You will ideally be experienced with Conquest or Bluebeam estimating software.
