SUMMARY
As part of the Insurance Services team, the primary responsibilities of the Safety & Loss Prevention Specialist include analyzing monthly and weekly loss reports, requesting policyholder surveys, reviewing survey findings, and issuing recommendations for improvement based on survey results. This role is also responsible for continuous efforts to mitigate and/or prevent losses for policyholders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Show an in-depth understanding of the workers compensation insurance industry and how it aligns with workplace safety.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the coordination of risk-specific loss prevention activities that include: hazard analysis, job safety analysis, supervisor or employee training, general safety training, assistance with safety program development, loss control program audits, develop/assist in the implementation of fire and safety programs and procedures, assist in maintaining OSHA compliance, provide safety materials/information, research codes and industry standards as necessary to ensure that proposed recommendations are appropriate, etc.
  • Review monthly and weekly reports, identify areas of opportunity and track the progress of policyholders who have been issued recommendations for improvement.
  • Distribute survey summaries to assigned underwriters and/or underwriting assistants.
  • Identify opportunities for workflow process improvements and distribution.
  • Assist the Marketing team with producing educational content for policyholders and our agency partners.
  • Coordinate surveys for policyholders with a focus on construction, manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare in size ranging from middle market to a select few larger multi-location operations.
  • Identify trends, problem areas, and/or monitor the impact of loss control activities that are in place.
  • Develop solutions and processes that can better control any identified exposures or address specific loss/safety issues.
  • Coordinate and manage outside loss control vendors ensuring the timely execution of safety surveys and delivery of safety training/materials.
  • Review survey reports and risk assessments and communicate findings to underwriting.
  • Develop and communicate survey reports and safety recommendations to policyholders.
  • Provide regular updates to underwriting and leadership on the status of in-progress loss prevention services.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal teams such as underwritings, claims, policy services, and business development.
  • Available to be on-site for safety surveys for limited select accounts.
  • Understand and maintain state regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Foster policyholder and agent loyalty and retention.
  • Offer competitive differentiators to agents and policyholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, G Suite, or similar software
  • Comprehension of a task-based workflow system to manage prospective and current customers and accounts

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Unless fully remote, this position operates in a professional office setting and routinely uses standard
office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This is
largely a sedentary role with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. However,
some filing is necessary and may require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on
a stool as necessary.

POSITION & EXPECTED HOURS
This is a full-time, salaried exempt position. Typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday,
from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, however, the employee must be available
during the "core" work hours of 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and must work 37.5 hours each week.

TRAVEL
This role may include some travel as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Safety & Loss Prevention Specialist April 2022

  • A bachelor s degree in safety, engineering, or a related field
  • At least 1-2 years of experience is required in loss control
  • Experience in workers compensation insurance
  • A combination of education and experience may be accepted
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), and/or Occupational
  • Hygiene Safety Technician (OSH) certifications preferred
