Head of Sustainability Redhill £75,000 per annum Reporting to the Wholesale Director, you will lead SES Water s sustainability agenda via a team of subject matter experts setting direction, leading, collaborating and co-ordinating the delivery of a range of strategic, tactical and operational activities. You will have extensive interaction with our Board of Directors and executive-level leadership team, alongside liaison with key regulators, independent committees and peers across the sector. The challenges facing the water sector are clear; the requirement to minimise its contribution to and the impact of climatic change; ensuring its ability to supply future generations, halting and where possible reversing its impact on biodiversity decline and influencing customers and suppliers to embrace a longer-term approach in their use of water resources. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will represent the company in key stakeholder meetings and actively build your network with key industry contacts. You will work collaboratively across teams and constructively challenge and influence in order to embed our sustainability agenda into everyday decision making. The role is responsible for a wide remit of activity, supported by subject matter experts across the business; Water Resource Planning, climatic adaptation and carbon and waste reduction, delivery of environmental improvement and influencing of our communities and customer opinions. In addition, you will lead and develop your department, ensuring that your collaborative and high-performing teams meet key deliverables within budget and influence the business to embed the sustainability agenda. You will drive a positive culture within the department through accountability for compliance and delivery of business objectives. You will - Define and implement an approach to accounting for sustainability and reporting progress. As the lead expert for sustainability at SES Water, you will keep up to date with changes in regulation, governance and best practice, communicating and embedding these into working practices and day-to-day operations - Work with Water Resources South East (WRSE), external consultants and colleagues from within the business, to own and deliver SES Water s water resource and drought management planning processes - Take ownership of the climate adaptation management planning process and implementation of its recommendations to ensure the business remains resilient - Own and lead the delivery of SES Water s commitment to achieving net zero carbon utilising the IEMA GhG reduction hierarchy, ensuring delivery of the changes in working practices and sourcing decisions - Implement measurable lifecycle assessment techniques to move the business towards more responsible sourcing decisions and the minimisation and ultimately eradication of waste streams from all activities - Work in partnership with a wide range of external stakeholders to define and deliver the Company s required interventions under the National Environment Programme (WINEP) and other initiatives important to the delivery of the sustainability strategy - Develop the Company s approach to biodiversity enhancement - Develop and take ownership of the Company s water efficiency strategy - Help create opportunity and initiatives for the Company to engage with, understand, educate, and influence customer and community attitudes towards water use and the sector in general - Work with key regulators in the development and delivery of the sustainability strategy and its component parts - Manage, co-ordinate and prepare the sustainability components of Annual Returns - Input to the Company five-yearly business planning process About You You will be educated to degree level in an appropriate discipline and hold chartered status of an appropriate institution, along with a professional management qualification. Experienced in strategic leadership within a sustainability focussed role, you will already have worked within a mid-to-senior-level management position. You are experienced in managing commercial contracts to drive performance and have an appreciation of the challenges, both commercial and technical, affecting the utilities sector. On a personal level, you are confident in constructively challenging plans to drive the sustainability agenda and provoke further thought and investigation, encouraging and developing your team to do the same in order to embed this into the organisation.
