Our client has an opportunity for an experienced Head of Data Engineering to join their organisation and be part of their expanding and diverse team. The client plays an integral part in the sectors that is serves, providing solutions and data that can help save lives, prevent hazards and streamline functionality. This role would be ideal for someone able to apply cutting edge data analytics techniques to solve real-world problems. This role provides the opportunity to work in diverse environments Aerospace, Defence, Security, Government & Infrastructure (Energy, Water, Transport). You will be responsible for leading, nurturing and growing a team and ensuring an outstanding quality of delivery across a diverse mix of client projects. The client offers flexibility in relation to location and has offices situated in London and the multiple offices in the South they are also happy to consider flexible and home working arrangements. As the Head of Data Engineering for this product team, you will be accountable for a small, but growing, team of data engineers, part of a wider global development team comprising developers, data scientists, data engineers and UX/UI specialists. You will sit on the senior leadership team for the project and represent your team to the wider business; building relationships and technical know-how as you go. You ll get involved across the entire engineering lifecycle, developing, delivering, and supporting the cutting-edge solution as it rolls out to their global portfolio A background in software development will be required as you work hand-in-hand with their Technical Product Manager so that data models can be integrated into the wider product and quality assurance and other service management aspects are considered throughout the development lifecycle. Whilst this is a leadership role, they expect that the successful candidate will problem solve on detail technical topics when required. This is an important role in rapidly evolving part of the client s business and would be ideal for someone that can Head the team to build and deliver a complex software product leveraging and applying advanced analytics and data models within an Agile project environment. Work collaboratively with data scientists and the wider software development team to ensure data architecture and data pipelines allow scaled deployment of the final product. Set up best practice data engineer capabilities and processes including automated testing, version control, and CI/CD in a cloud-based environment. Lead the assembly of large complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements, actively seeking opportunities to acquire data from other systems. Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources, recommending best practice and ways in implement improvements in data quality reliability and efficiency throughout. Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing the products that help business achieving their goals. Help the data engineer team to achieve their potential through active technical leadership and coaching. Collaborate across their business to ensure the right resources and skills are provided to enable successful solution delivery. Engage with clients, product owners and other stakeholders to ensure their requirements are considered and prioritized correctly. This would ideally suit someone that has a track record managing the delivery of technology solutions, including hardware & software integration, to time, cost, and quality, with a keen eye for risk and opportunity management. Rounded, full life cycle experience from requirements and design through to testing, deployment, and through-life support, with experience of managing suppliers when needed. A problem-solving mindset and the ability to make conceptual links between real word problems and data analytics solutions. Deep knowledge of SQL, Cloud based data pipelines, architectures and data sets. Experience working with distributed data processing frameworks such as Spark in cloud-based environments. Experience working with large data sets, data pipeline and workflow management tools, Azure cloud services, REST APIs and stream-processing systems. Experience working in an agile environment or organizations with an agile culture. Background in programming in Python, Scala, or Java (Python preferred). Experience operating under an Agile delivery model, and a software development environment.
