Job Description

The GIS Analyst is responsible for providing technical support in regard to cartographic deliverables and geodatabase management for marine geophysical and geotechnical site investigation reporting projects; responsible for multiple simultaneous routine projects; provides technical consultation in terms of GIS to challenging non-routine projects; and develops technical skills and knowledge of Fugro USA Marine, Inc. computer software and services.

Job Responsibilities
  • Executes GIS projects in Fugro USA Marine, Inc. Norfolk office.
  • Accurately validates and interprets marine geophysical, geologic, and engineering data using ESRI's latest ArcGIS software to support marine geohazards, geotechnical, and geophysical survey projects.
  • Provides senior-level analytical support for various GIS activities, including but not limited to assists in project planning, budget and data analysis, project management training, and development of project documents; provides advanced analysis, programming, and testing to support our offices
  • Experience using ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcGIS Pro for Data Management, geospatial analysis, charting, figures, etc. (Preferred version minimum of 10.8 for ArcMap and 2.8 for ArcPro)
  • Leads project development for GIS projects; overseeing project plan development, tracking, and scheduling, to ensure productivity and quality standards are maintained
  • Develops and maintains web map applications that enable internal and external customers to search, retrieve information and perform advanced geospatial analytics
  • Creates, edits, and manages GIS data using ESRI's ArcGIS and other software, and maintains project GIS data (including metadata) according to standard procedures and terminology for purposes of data management and map presentation
  • Experience working with the IOGP SSDM standard; creating deliverables, updating attribution, and QC tasks to ensure spatial accuracy and validity of interpreted data
  • Performs surface and sub-surface analyses including geoprocessing tasks, gridding and contouring raster data and using various ArcGIS extensions and Fugro custom routines written for ArcGIS
  • Performs ETL functions to bring in various datasets from other applications (CAD, csv, etc.) or previous surveys for integration into analysis
  • Provides training and education on GIS project management methodology and phases such as planning, execution and result monitoring
  • Prepares data examples and graphics, and works closely with geoscientists and engineers to facilitate presentation-quality reports

Job Requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Possess current driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Possess the ability to obtain a valid passport for international travel
  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Geology/Earth Sciences, Geomatics, Geography, Geophysics, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Studies/Sciences
  • Have 5 years or more in ArcGIS experience through industry or university coursework related to geology and engineering.
  • Have experience managing marine geophysical data types (e.g., multibeam bathymetry and backscatter data, side scan sonar data, etc.) preferred
  • Completion of a GIS Certificate Program preferred.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SQL, VB, Python Scripting preferred.
  • Application development utilizing ESRI JavaScript API, Dojo, .Net, Java, Python and/or C# preferred.
  • Relational Database Management system administration and database design skills preferred.
  • Proficient user of MS Office Suite; advanced skill level in ArcGIS, Global Mapper, etc.; knowledge of Graphic design software (such as CorelDraw, Adobe, etc.) preferred.
