The CAHSS Marketing Director has primary responsibility for marketing and communication activities throughout the college, acting as an internal marketing/advertising firm for the college. The Marketing Director will coordinate, research, recommend, and implement overall marketing initiatives. This includes planning, arranging, and administering advertising placement and managing workflow. As the senior administrator overseeing the college's marketing operations, the Marketing Director will also manage the marketing budget, assist with event planning, and build relationships by engaging the wider community to cross-promote the college and its departments. This position supervises the Website Manager/Multimedia Graphic Designer, the CAHSS Box Office/Front of House Manager, and student work-study employees. This position also works closely with University Marketing and Public Relations to align college marketing and communication activities with overall campus strategic priorities. The Marketing Director reports to the CAHSS Dean.

Responsibilities (including other duties as assigned):

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION 75%
  • Promote CAHSS events, including academic events, music and theatre performances, and lecture series.
  • Create, develop, and implement measurable communications strategies across multiple channels and for multiple audiences
  • Write vibrant feature stories and news releases about students, faculty, staff, alumni, and events
  • Arrange proactive earned media coverage for events and success stories
  • Oversee collegiate website in conjunction with the CAHSS Website Manager/Multimedia Graphic Designer
  • Prepare social media calendar with the CAHSS Website Manager/Multimedia Graphic Designer and CAHSS student social media manager
  • Meet regularly with CAHSS advising staff and Associate Dean to help support recruitment and retention strategies
  • Perform analysis of communication efforts, continually optimize them, and review best strategies
  • Attend and promote campus events as needed to share the CAHSS experience with other key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with CAHSS Website Manager/Multimedia Graphic Designer on data, descriptions, photographs, QR codes, layout, final editing, and proofing for publications, posters, and social media posts
  • Set production schedule, manage vendor relationships, and creative needs in collaboration with the department and the CAHSS Website Manager/Multimedia Graphic Designer's priorities
  • Monitor branding materials to ensure consistency with UMD branding
SUPERVISION 15%
  • Provide regular and ongoing supervision of Box Office/Front of House Manager, Website Manager/Multimedia Graphic Designer, and student work-study employees
  • Serve as emergency back-up for Box Office/Front of House manager
  • Prioritize and assign work in collaboration with team members
SPECIAL EVENTS 10%
  • Provide marketing consultation and solutions for special events like community events, press conferences, and special invited speakers and performance guests
  • Represent CAHSS at campus, public, and community events

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS plus at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 6 years
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with people from a variety of backgrounds, communities, and identities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience working in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities, coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously, and meet deadlines
